The Men, The Missions, The Stories
Every time a B-17 flew a mission, the life stories
of 10 men were changed irrevocably. They set out to do the job they
had to do. Some returned. Many did not. All were heroes.
In the early part of the campaign in the skies
over Germany, the mortality rate for bomber crews was about 85%.
No other branch of the service regularly faced such overwhelming
odds against survival. Through the words of the survivors, we hope
to remember the departed. The stories of the brave men of the 323rd
Bomb Squadron will live on in this website long after the last of
the storytellers has gone.
